The Meulensteen method is a soccer training curriculum developed by Rene Meulensteen. It provides coaches and clubs with a unique player centered development curriculum with the following goals in mind: - Develop creative confident players. - Teach players the skills needed to dominate the 1v1 situation. - Design age and stage appropriate training sessions.
Why did RSC become a Meulensteen partner club?
RSC has found that having a consistent training philosophy, like The Meulensteen Method, is the best way to develop young players to their highest potential. With it, all of our coaches will be able to articulate a consistent training philosophy and curriculum to players and parents. Players will know exactly what is expected of them during each training session. Parents will gain a better understanding of their role in their child’s learning and what is appropriate at each stage of their development. At the end of the day, everyone wants to see results on the field, but with The Meulensteen Method, results are not always measured on wins and losses. The method challenges players and parents to look at success in different ways resulting in players reaching their full potential both on and off the field. In short, The Meulensteen Method will put everyone in the club (coaches, players and parents) on the same page, resulting in better players, better teams, and a better club.
What can I expect from this training method?
The Meulensteen Method provides coaches with weekly training topics and sessions. These sessions help them create a fun, meaningful, effective, safe and encouraging environment that is challenging and player centered. The key stages of the curriculum are turning technique into skill into strategy. Technique: At the youngest ages, players will learn how to master the ball. This includes learning the various techniques to dominate the four 1v1 situations, along with the fundamentals of passing, receiving, defending, and shooting.
Skill: A skillful player will make the right decision at the right time. During this stage players will be taught to use their technique and understanding to impose their will against their opponent. This is the most critical stage of player development, as well as the most ignored and overlooked. Many other clubs skip this stage in favor of team tactics, which may look good on a scoreboard but do not help players reach their full potential.
Strategy: Players now learn how to work together using their skill for the greater good of the team.
Does this replace the licensing coaches already have?
No, The Meulensteen Method complements the education coaches already have by providing education on the 4 pieces of a world class player, the Ages & Stages of player development, maximizing training sessions, creating a positive training environment, how to train technique, and the value of repetition.
